Johann Strauß and Bad Vöslau
...from the origin of his living and working!

During monarchy Bad Vöslau profited from the immediate neighbourhood of the city of Baden, where the Emperor used to stay regularily at the thermal bathes. Of course the Emperor's court and a lot of other followers used to stay at this time also in Baden and surroundings (Bad Vöslau).

Johann Strauß is registered several times in the guestlists of the Vöslauer thermal bath. He did not only spend his vacations here, he was also owner of a mansion, the later so called "Strauß-Villa".

Beside the "Vöslauer Polka" he composed here his most famous Operetta "Fledermaus". According to the Libretto one of the szenes is located in a "health resort near a big city", and 'Herr von Einstein' and 'Notar Falke' rave about the 'Vöslauer fancy-dress ball'...

Also his friend, publisher and Impresario Gustav Lewy was owner of a mansion in Bad Vöslau and spent here most of the summers.
